5/3/05: Partnership between ERMP and RSCA announced
Lynn McGee, Director of Professional Services at the School of Communication Arts in Raleigh, assists students and graduates who are seeking employment in the field. The Alumni have a lifetime system, which allows them to get local and international contacts through the school. She also helps them find internships, with groups such as Eno River Media Productions. Eno River Media Productions, or ERMP, develops programming that highlights the arts, nonprofit organizations and small businesses in the diverse communities throughout North Carolina. Anthony Dowling, Executive Producer of ERMP, contacted the school hoping to find interns to work with ERMP. McGee excitedly agreed to an arrangement that she viewed as a “winwin situation.”
The School's onsite facilities include a High Definition Digital theater with surround sound digital mix down that ERMP has been allowed to use. ERMP enjoys the opportunity to premiere projects in the theatre and get critiqued from the students. Dowling explains that there is “no better way to see all your flaws then on a screen that's 25 feet wide.” Recent screenings for Pivot band video and for ERMP's show "Barchords" have been well attended, in part due to McGee's advertisements throughout the school. This summer ERMP will begin taping bands live in the theatre for "Barchords." Says Dowling, “I’m overwhelmed at their hospitality."
Out of the Schools approximately 350 day and evening students, over 15 students are currently working with ERMP on different projects including "Barchords" and a Star Wars theme short film. ERMP would like to establish a presence among the students so they will later become interns, “we’d like to provide practical experience for what they’re learning on the book side,” says Dowling. ERMP would "like to be very useful to them as well as they are useful to us," continues Dowling, who in the future would "love for it eventually to count as a class credit" as well.
Through this partnership McGee and Dowling hope to see students grabbing Silver Reels awards from the Media Communications Association International. Other goals include introducing more people to the school and helping to keep postproduction in North Carolina. Both McGee and Dowling agree that a cooperative effort will promote awareness of opportunities in the film community.
