What started as a small event that could only debatably have been considered a film festival has grown extensively in a matter of only a couple of years to garner hundreds of submissions from around the world.

More than 130 independent films will be shown at multiple locations across the Pitt Community College campus on Saturday as part of the Eastern North Carolina Film Festival, presented by the PCC Drama Club. That is up considerably from last year’s event, which featured 32 films. Pitt Community College Music and Drama Coordinator Michael Stephenson said he suspects the growth is due at least in part to a new partnership with Eno River Media Productions.

Pairing with the production company — achieved through the help of local film enthusiast Ron Cooper who has helped direct the festival — gave the festival added legitimacy and helped to get the word out to filmmakers.
